Ray Macias is a nineteen year veteran of the Clarksville Police Department. During the course of his career he has performed duties such as Patrol Officer, Tactical Team Member, Narcotics Agent, Alcohol Beverage Control Agent, and is currently working as a Narcotics Agent and K-9 Handler with the Major Crimes Unit. Ray Macias is a true credit to the Clarksville Police Department and exemplifies those qualities needed for his chosen profession.

Ray has been married to his wife Peggy for almost 30 years and together they have raised two children and are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren ages 7 and 1.

In the early morning hours on July 14, 2006, Agt. Macias along with other members of the Major Crimes Unit were actively working a drive by shooting that resulted in a homicide on Caldwell Lane. During a neighborhood canvas Agt. Macias obtained information about the vehicles involved, and that the suspects were from the Burchwwood area. After obtaining this information Agt. Macias, as he said it, “had a feeling” about whom the suspects might be. Agt. Macias traveled to the area of #20 Prewitt’s Mobile Home Park, where he had conducted a knock and talk some weeks prior, to investigate his “hunch” further. Upon arriving there he discovered two vehicles that matched the descriptions he had been given. While attempting to establish surveillance and coordinate with other members of the Major Crimes Unit Agt. Macias saw four suspects leave the area in two vehicles. Agt. Macias followed the vehicles while other units were en-route to his location. Before other units could arrive the suspects attempted to flee but were hindered by the heavy traffic at the 101st Parkway and Whitfield Rd. Unable to continue two of the suspects abandoned there vehicle and fled into the wood-line on foot, one of these being armed with a handgun. Agt. Macias was able to detain two of the suspects and with the help of Officer Dowlen took them into custody. Agt. Macias provided an accurate description of the suspects that had fled and their direction of travel. After an extensive manhunt those two subjects were taken into custody as well. Agt. Macias is to be commended for his ability to interact with the public to obtain information. His never ending commitment to the Clarksville Police Department and his ability to turn a “hunch”, which only comes with years of experience and training, into what ultimately, was the arrest of eight individuals involved in the drive by shooting and subsequent death of Sylvester Hockett.
